On Memorial Day Weekend 2015, the Cal Handball team traveled to Modesto to play at the SOS Club. We had a total of nine players in the tournament which was a record-high since I’ve been on the team.
On the first day, Steve and I played in the B Doubles, which we lost. Since it was Single Elimination, we spent the rest of the day cheering on our teammates. The next day, I competed in the Women’s Division all day, winning all three matches (including one match that went to tie-breaker) to get 1st place.
Our team camped out in tents next to the club, like many of the players and families at the tournament did. It was great team bonding, something we hadn’t done since Collegiates back in February. The tournament provided lots of food too, including Barbeque on the first night. On the way back from Modesto, a few of us got Korean BBQ, in the Cal Handball tradition of post-tournament meals.
Extremely sore and tired, I fell asleep almost immediately after I got home. It was a great tournament and was a lot of fun. It was greater that almost the entire team played and that four of us medaled. Hoping to find time for handball post-college.
